Most people are probably unaware of the importance of emotions and thoughts in personal health and well-being.

Learning to connect words with our emotions and thoughts will allow us not only to enjoy better emotional health, but it can also have a positive impact on our physical well-being.

We can describe mental well-being as the state that allows us to function in an appropriate and healthy way.

This does not mean the absence of problems or illnesses, but rather that we can have well-being if we are able to become aware of them, try to solve them and modify them personally or collectively.

Tips for taking better care of our positive mental health

Well-being is a multidimensional state. New psychological theories lead us to approach improving well-being as if it were a triangle in which thoughts, emotions, and physiological activity are the three axes that interrelate and influence happiness and well-being.

For example, if we have a negative thought about a specific event, that is, if we make a negative reading or interpretation, it will provoke unpleasant emotions that in turn will lead us to feel worse physically, and all of this will negatively impact the initial event.

Given the importance of the relationship between these three aspects: thoughts, emotions, and bodily responses, we will take a closer look at them.

Thoughts

It is important to understand that thought is not reality itself, but a filter of it; it is the meaning that a person gives to a situation: if I try to interpret events and the environment in a more positive way within my possibilities, my life will be better, and I will also feel better physically.

Remember: if I think positively I will feel better.

Emotions

Being emotionally healthy doesn't mean being happy all the time, but rather being aware of our emotions (frustration, fear, sadness) as essential and enriching elements that help us in life. Furthermore, emotional numbness can be a worrying symptom.

Simply paying attention to our emotions allows us to begin channeling them, and by focusing on what we are feeling, they are automatically modulated. Emotional health is a skill that can and should be cultivated. Repressing what we feel is not a healthy way to manage emotions. Let's not be afraid of our emotions.

Remember: be aware of your emotions.

Body response

The third important aspect of well-being is the body and its physiological or bodily responses: when faced with an unpleasant event, the body feels bad, tends to shrink, and becomes ill. When the body feels good, it tends to emit positive emotions, and this makes us think more positively about what we have and who we are. Therefore, it is very important to pay attention to the body and try to take care of it, especially in terms of diet, rest, and physical activity. Let's not forget that physical exercise improves self-esteem, concentration, and sleep, and reduces stress and depression.

Remember: take care of your body.

To feel good (and improve our environment) we must think positively: know ourselves, accept ourselves and love ourselves, manage our emotions properly and take care of our physical health.
