The high frequency of mental health problems among people incarcerated in prisons is well known, with a higher percentage of affected individuals compared to the general civilian population. In this article, the author reflects on the reciprocal relationship between mental health problems and the prison system.

The reintegration into community life of individuals who have served a prison sentence or been subject to a security measure is an enormous challenge, both for them and for the community they aspire to return to with the greatest possible guarantees of integration. This challenge is, at the same time, a great opportunity for the organizations that intervene and support them in the rehabilitation and reintegration process.

In the recovery of a person with a mental disorder who is incarcerated, the chances of success increase significantly when the family is present and understands the situation their affected relative is experiencing. We delve into specific family support programs, whose main objective is to foster family collaboration with the person receiving care, strengthening their role as agents of change and social inclusion.

Activities, workshops, and personal, intimate, and unique support are offered, where the spiritual experience takes on its greatest meaning.
