Should the class group work on supporting a student who is undergoing treatment for an eating disorder?
Each person needs different support depending on their condition, temperament, and relationship with the class group. Some prefer to explain things privately, others prefer not to give any information, some prefer to have their questions answered, and others prefer that the teachers request absolute discretion and normalcy. Therefore, the best option is to agree with the person with an eating disorder on what they want, whether they are ready to share with their classmates, and how they want to do so. It is essential to respect their privacy and not share information with the peer group that the person may not yet have processed or that is particularly intimate. It is important to distinguish between responding to the needs of the peer group and responding to morbid curiosity.
